Statewide Phone Bank Voter Call Out Day
On Saturday, November 4, 2023, the Zeta Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated spearheaded a transformative non-partisan initiative — the 2023 Statewide Phone Bank Voter Call Out Day, hosted at Union College's Cranford Campus. This event, a powerful convergence of community strength, showcased the fraternity's commitment to civic engagement and left an indelible mark on the economic and democratic fabric of the state of NJ.
Unified with purpose, chapter brothers, accompanied by members and supporters of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) of Central Jersey, seamlessly blended in-person and virtual efforts to reach over 30,000 registered voters. Their mission: to diligently remind citizens of the three crucial ways to cast their votes ahead of the November 7, 2023 general election.
This year's event, a beacon of civic responsibility, witnessed the collaboration of over 50 dedicated volunteers, including influential elected figures. The likes of Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, Senator Cory Booker, and Assemblywoman Linda Carter graced the occasion, emphasizing the pivotal role played by the "Divine 9" in propelling voter turnout. Newark Mayor and Alpha Brother Ras Baraka not only added his inspirational voice but actively participated in the call outreach, symbolizing a united front in civic responsibility. Even renowned recording artist and radio host Miss Jones of 94.7 The Block joined the cause, leveraging her platform to promote the initiative and engage with registered voters.
The roots of this impactful Phone Bank Call Out Day extend three years back to the initiation by the Zeta Nu Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. The commitment to Alpha Phi Alpha’s national program, "A Voteless People is a Hopeless People," gained significant momentum last year, welcoming the Phi Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and subsequently, the NPHC of Central Jersey. This collaboration transformed the event into a statewide force, ensuring maximum impact and outreach.
Beyond the immediate impact, the resonance of this initiative echoes a commitment to amplify voices and ensure active participation in the democratic process. It's not just about the act of voting; it's about fostering a sense of community and instilling the belief that every voice matters, contributing to a more robust and engaged society.
